Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how RansomShield ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the RansomShield software and related services (the "Service"). We have designed the Service so that we never receive your backed-up files.

1. Information we collect

2. Information we do NOT collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store the contents of your files or backups. Your backed-up data remains entirely on your own equipment, on-site. Backup encryption keys are derived locally on your machine and are never transmitted over the network.

3. How we use information

4. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

We process your personal data on the following bases: performance of our contract with you (operating your license and the Service); legitimate interests (fraud prevention, service security); and consent where required (e.g., optional communications). You may object to processing based on legitimate interests, and may request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your personal data at any time by contacting us.

5. Data retention

License and backup status data is retained for as long as your subscription is active and for up to 12 months after it ends, after which it is deleted. Support emails are retained as long as needed to resolve your requests.

6. Sharing and processors

We share data only with the following categories of processors: Lemon Squeezy, LLC (payment processing and merchant of record services) and our hosting provider for the license/reporting backend. We do not sell personal data.

7. International transfers

Our backend servers may be located outside your country of residence. Where personal data is transferred from the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

8. Security

We use TLS encryption in transit for license verification and reporting, encrypted storage for cached license material on your device, and least-privilege access on our servers. No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we design our systems so that the most sensitive data — your backups — never reaches us at all.

9. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including the EEA, UK, and various US states), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to opt out of marketing communications. Contact us at the address below to exercise these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

10. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service before the changes take effect.
